New design + traveling the world

New Threads

First order of business, this site has a new design! For all of you in feed readers, please stop on by.

My old layout got to the point that I cringed every time I loaded the page.  As you may be able to tell, I drew a lot of inspiration from Muxtape and Subtraction.  My goal was to create a site that used very few images, loaded quickly, was valid, and was easy on the eyes.  The design is a modified sandbox theme, and was completed in about four days.

I am considering making this theme available for public release, so please drop a comment it you encounter any bugs, misspellings, or ugliness.  Please be harsh.

Traveling

And now for the slightly bigger news. Come October 1st I will start a typical post-college backpacking trip of Europe (and maybe somewhere else).  I have one brother who is finishing up what would be considered tech school in England, and another that is entering an exchange student program in Hungary.  The plan is to visit them both, see the sites, and possibly take over the world.

This also means that I will be moving out of Philadelphia, and I have absolutely no idea where I will be living when I return.

On top of that, during the last week in August I will be driving from Philadelphia to Seattle with a group of friends to attend the Penny Arcade Expo.

Whew.

Eh, if I can’t have a banner photo of Sean Blanda luxuriating then what do I have to live for? Also, I personally prefer the search bar, blogroll and categories on the side, where you have ample space now, though perhaps you’re trying avoid crowd – I’d disagree though. But, speaking of crowd, I think it is just that at top, with thick page links and tight space between your name and start of posts. Gimme some space. I totally suggest an avant garde black and white headshot of you in the top right corner, perhaps with one shadowy side. Good luck traveling, have lots of fun, don’t worry about money, time or plans after… oh and definitely find Philadelphia again – it’s the best city in the world and everyone will know it in a decade.

Take over the world!! Vienna is a beautiful city!! I did a month long eurotrip last summer and it was awesome!! I loved France, especially the Loire valley. Go to as much countries as you can, don’t buy that europass for the train, it is not worth it! It was my dilemma before going. But do book hostels please! drop an email if you need to know any other thing. I went to Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France and England, but my specialty is France.

Blanda, the site looks great. My only complain is that one or two contrasting headline/subheat/navigation fonts would do good… it’s hard to distinguish with font-size alone.

Good luck with your world travels, sorry we didn’t get to hang out yet this summer. Let’s meet up soon. The trip sounds like the winz.

The site looks good! So, you’re coming to Seattle for the Penny Arcade Expo? That’s where I live, so if you’ve never been and want to know some places worth visiting and whatnot, let me know!

As for Europe, I studied in Rome for three months and did a bit of traveling while I was there. I liked England a lot because I went at the end of my trip and was really homesick and England’s a lot like the states compared to other European countries (besides just the language). Berlin and Barcelona are definitely worth visiting too. Can’t wait to hear about your travels abroad!
